Real Madrid finished the first half of the season leading La Liga with 48 points following a tough 1-0 win over Mallorca at their home ground.
Antonio Rudiger’s header from Luka Modric’s corner in the 78th minute secured the win for Madrid, who struggled against Mallorca’s strong defense. Mallorca had close chances in the first half, hitting the woodwork through Antoinio Sanchez and Samu Costa. Madrid’s Brahim also hit the bar with a header. Despite the game being tight, Real Madrid kept pressing, and Rudiger’s header brought relief to their fans at Santiago Bernabeu.
In another match, Girona won 4-3 at home against Atletico Madrid, despite Alvaro Morata scoring a fantastic hat-trick for Atletico. Girona took an early lead with Valery Fernandez’s goal, but Morata equalized for Atletico. Girona then gained control with two quick goals before Morata’s third leveled the score at 3-3. However, Ivan Martin’s late goal secured Girona’s victory, leaving Atletico trailing 10 points behind the top two teams.
Meanwhile, Celta Vigo secured a 2-1 win over Betis. Williot Swedberg scored in injury time to lift Celta Vigo out of the relegation zone. Aitor Ruibal gave Betis an early lead, but Iago Aspas’ penalty equalized. Swedberg’s late goal sealed the win for Celta Vigo.
Elsewhere, Granada won 2-0 against Cadiz, who ended the game with ten players after Ruben Soriano was sent off. Real Sociedad drew 1-1 with Alaves, Rayo Vallecano won 2-0 against Getafe, and Valencia secured a 3-1 victory over Villarreal.
Sevilla, Osasuna, and FC Barcelona will play their matches hoping for wins to stay close to Real Madrid and Girona in the league standings.
