FC Barcelona kicked off their La Liga campaign with a goalless draw against Getafe. Both sides were reduced to 10 players during the match. Raphinha was shown a red card in the first half for elbowing Getafe defender Gaston Alvarez, while Getafe’s Jaime Mata received a red card in the second half.
Barca coach Xavi Hernandez also received a red card for his displeasure with Getafe’s fouling and time-wasting tactics. The referee added significant added time due to stoppages, including VAR interventions.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid registered a 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao. Rodrygo scored in the 28th minute, followed by debutant Jude Bellingham’s goal from a corner. Bellingham’s shot was mishit but looped over Athletic’s goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Eder Militao suffered a knee injury shortly after Thibaut Courtois was ruled out for the season with a similar injury. Betis earned a dramatic 95th minute win at Villarreal, with Willian Jose’s header. Ayoze Perez scored for Betis in the 20th minute, while Jorge Cuenca equalized with a header before Willian Jose secured the victory.
Girona and Real Sociedad shared points, with Artem Dovbyk’s late header cancelling out Takefusa Kubo’s early goal. Osasuna defeated Celta Vigo 2-0, with Ruben Garcia and Moi Gomez scoring. Las Palmas drew 1-1 with Mallorca, as Jonathan Viera and Antonio Railio found the net. Rayo Vallecano started well under new coach Francisco Rodriguez, winning 2-0 against Almeria with penalties from Isi Palazon and Nteka.
Surprisingly, Valencia had earlier defeated Sevilla 2-1. Despite their lack of transfers, the former overcame the UEFA Europa League champions, with Mouctar Diakhaby and Javi Guerra scoring.
