Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone were the heroes for Punjab Kings as they started the IPL 2024 with a thrilling four-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals. The match, played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, was full of ups and downs. Despite a good performance by Kuldeep Yadav, Delhi’s bowlers struggled, and Punjab successfully chased down their target of 175 runs. Curran scored the highest with 63 runs, while Livingstone remained unbeaten on 38. The two overseas players eventually led Punjab to victory with four balls to spare. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, had a good start but couldn’t capitalise on it. Shai Hope scored 33 runs, and Abishek Porel’s quick 32 not out helped Delhi reach a competitive total of 174/9.
Setting a target of over 8.5 runs per over, DC looked to be on course for their first win of the season. They batted fairly well, although they eventually seemed to fall at least 10 runs short of what would have been an imposing total.

In the end, Livingstone sealed the win for Punjab with a six over mid-wicket. Earlier, Porel’s cameo at the end of Delhi’s innings had helped them post a challenging total. Despite some good performances, especially from Warner and Marsh, Delhi couldn’t defend their total, and Punjab emerged victorious in their opening IPL 2024 game.
