IPL 2024: GT snatch narrow six-run win over MI

Jasprit Bumrah returned to the IPL 2024 after a year in what was eventually a thrilling encounter. However, his impressive performance was overshadowed by Spencer Johnson and Umesh Yadav’s excellent bowling in the last two overs. With that, Gujarat Titans won by six runs against Mumbai Indians in their first match of the IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Mumbai Indians seemed to be in control after Bumrah’s 3-14 and David Coetzee’s 2-27 restricted Gujarat Titans to 168/6. Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis played well, taking Mumbai Indians to 129/4 at the halfway stage. But Gujarat Titans fought back strongly. Mohit Sharma, Spencer Johnson, and Umesh Yadav bowled brilliantly in the death overs. Mumbai Indians struggled and could only manage 162/9 in their 20 overs, losing a close match.

Spencer Johnson and Umesh Yadav took two wickets each in the 19th and 20th overs, making it difficult for Mumbai Indians to chase 27 runs off 12 balls. Despite some good strokes from Hardik Pandya against his former team, MI fell short by just six runs.
