England fast-bowler Jofra Archer won’t be playing for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have decided to part ways with bowlers Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, and Wanindu Hasaranga. How this decision plays out for RCB as the season progresses is yet to be seen. The decision, however, could disappoint many, considering the experience that the three bring to the table.
For Mumbai Indians, players like captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and several others have been retained for the 2024 season. They’ve also kept some international players like Tim David and Cameron Green in their team. Mumbai Indians traded for Romario Shepherd from Lucknow Super Giants just before the retention deadline.
Archer’s release from Mumbai Indians was expected as he had only played a few games over the past two seasons due to injuries. Additionally, some other players like Tristan Stubbs, Duan Jansen, Jhye Richardson, Arshad Khan, and Hrithik Shokeen have also been released.

RCB, on the other hand, are letting go of Hazlewood, Harshal, Hasaranga, David Willey, and Michael Bracewell. With this move, they now have available spots for four overseas players and three domestic players. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have a lesser amount of money to spend in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on December 19th.
This year’s IPL 2024 is expected to be filled with thrills, considering the cricket fever is strong after the ODI World Cup. However, the absence of some star players this season will surely disappoint fans.
