Pat Cummins is keen on extending his tenure as Australia’s ODI captain after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He has also set his sights on the IPL 2024 auction, ahead of the T20 World Cup.
With seven successive victories following a shaky start in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the Australians stand chance to win their sixth title. Their winning streak has further reinforced the case for Cummins to continue in the leadership role. The fast bowler had taken up the captaincy last year after Aaron Finch’s retirement.

Pat Cummins hinted at the possibility of continuing as the ODI captain beyond the ongoing tournament. However, he conceded that the ultimate decision rests with coach Andrew McDonald and selection head George Bailey.
He also expressed his ambition to secure a place in Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, highlighting his willingness to participate in the IPL, which will be taken into account.

Earlier this year, Pat Cummins withdrew from his lucrative $1.34 million (Australian dollars) IPL contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders. He cited a packed 2023 schedule that encompassed an India Test tour, the World Test Championship final, the Ashes, and the ongoing ODI World Cup.
Following Finch’s departure, the captaincy position for the T20 side became available. Mitch Marsh emerged as the frontrunner for the role, having made a strong impression during the recent series against South Africa.
