Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Madrid in the 31st minute, while Rayo managed to equalise through Raul de Tomas in the 84th minute to bring them back into the game.

This win propelled Madrid to second place, overtaking Atletico Madrid, who drew 3-3 against Espanyol. Madrid had suffered two consecutive losses in different competitions, also having been eliminated by Manchester City in the Champions League semifinals. On the other hand, Rayo Vallecano suffered their third consecutive defeat and remained in 11th place.

In another La Liga game, Espanyol showcased a remarkable comeback by scoring three goals in 15 minutes during the second half, resulting in a 3-3 draw against Atletico Madrid. This outcome kept Espanyol in second-to-last place, within the relegation zone and three points away from safety, with only two rounds remaining.

Getafe managed to climb out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory against Real Betis, securing 16th place thanks to Omar Alderete’s goal in the 68th minute. Getafe and Cadiz, in 17th place, both have 38 points, but Getafe holds a better position based on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Valladolid, positioned just above the relegation zone, also has 38 points after defeating reigning champions Barcelona 3-1.
Villarreal maintained their hopes of catching up to Real Sociedad, who occupy the fourth and final Champions League spot. Villarreal remains five points behind Real Sociedad.
