Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a 34-run victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday, after Shubman Gill’s century and Mohammad Shami’s outstanding bowling performance.
The Titans’ opening bowlers Mohamad Shami and Yash Dayal dismissed Anmolpreet Singh (5) and Abhishek Sharma (4), respectively, early in the match. Shami continued his impressive form by taking another crucial wicket in the third over, dismissingf SRH captain Aiden Markram for just 10 runs off 10 balls.

Sanvir Singh and Heinrich Klaasen survived the next two overs, but Shami was determined to unsettle them. In the seventh over, he dismissed Singh for 7 runs off 6 deliveries, increasing GT’s hopes of a win. At the end of the powerplay, SRH could only manage 45/4.
Klaasen kept the scoreboard ticking by smashing boundaries. However, the other batsmen failed to provide support from the opposite end.
Young Indian talent Abdul Samad had an opportunity to showcase his skills, but GT introduced Mohit Sharma into the attack. Sharma took the wickets of Samad and Marco Jansen, for 4 off 3 balls and 3 runs off 6 balls.

However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar maintained resilience and held his own. Meanwhile, Klaasen attempted to pick the boundaries, while Bhuvi stuck around at the other end.
Klaasen stuck at the crease, giving Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hopes of chasing down the target, reached his half-century in the 14th over. However, the required run rate continued to climb despiute his dominance over the GT bowlers.
However, while attempting to clear the boundary, Klaasen found David Miller, giving Shami his fourth wicket of the match. Klaasen’s impressive innings ended with 64 runs off 44 deliveries.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, too, couldn’t stay until the end and was Mohit Sharma’s third victim. SRH ended their innings at 154/9 in their 20 overs.

Gill smashes first IPL century, Bhuvi shines with ball
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) struck early, dismissing Wriddhiman Saha for a duck in three balls, courtesy Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill took charge and dismantled the SRH bowling attack.
They played shots across the field, asserting the Titans’ dominance. The powerplay phase concluded with the Titans in a strong position, scoring 65 for the loss of one wicket.
The second-wicket partnership continued until the 15th over when Marco Jansen returned to bowl. Sai attempted a shot but lost his balance, resulting in the ball going straight into the hands of T Natarajan.

Soon after, the Titans’ batting lineup fell like dominoes. Hardik Pandya had the opportunity to take his time and guide GT to victory, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s experience proved too much. Pandya connected well with a shot, but it found Rahul Tripathi. Pandya departed after scoring 8 runs off 6 balls.
David Miller and Rahul Tewatia then came to the crease but were quickly dismissed, scoring 7 runs off 4 balls and 3 runs off 3 balls.
Shubman Gill continued to score steadily at the other end. However, his blitzkrieg innings came to an end. His drive foudn Abdul Samad who took the catch, bringing an end to the opener’s splendid knock. He was finally out after scoring 101 runs off only 58 balls.

GT then collapsed in the last five overs as they lost four wickets and scored only two runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar completed his five-wicket haul by taking three wickets in the final over. In the end, GT finished their innings with a score of 188 runs, losing 9 wickets in the process.
