Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a comprehensive 27-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja played outstanding innings, whlie Matheesha Pathirana took three wickets to help the Super Kings clinch a win.
Dhoni and Jadeja’s blistering performances in the 19th over helped CSK reach 167/8 in 20 overs. Pathirana was the top performer for CSK, taking three wickets, while Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja were among the wickets. Rilee Rossouw was the top scorer for Delhi with 35 runs off 37 balls, while Manish Pandey contributed 27 runs in 29 balls.

Defending a total of 167, Chennai’s bowlers dominated Delhi batters from the start of the innings, with Deepak Chahar claiming the crucial wicket of David Warner in the first over of the match. Warner was dismissed for a two-ball duck.
Following Salt’s dismissal, Mitchell Marsh joined Manish Pandey at the crease in the third over. However, DC suffered a setback, losing Marsh to a run-out after a mix-up between the batters, as he departed for just five runs. Rilee Rossouw then came in and began a partnership with Pandey, scoring 15 runs off Chahar’s over, including a six and two fours. After five overs, DC were reeling at 42/3.

Rossouw and Manish formed fifty run partnership in 51 deliveries for the fourth wicket, but Pathirana dismissed the latter for 27 runs in the 13th over. Axar Patel replaced him and hit some boundaries to relieve the pressure. However, Rossouw lost his wicket to Jadeja after scoring 35 runs. Axar’s cameo also ended when he was caught by Rahane in deep off Pathirana’s slower ball in the 18th over.
Lalit Yadav smashed three consecutive fours in the last over, but it was not enough to lead his team to a win, as the Super Kings won by 27 runs.

Earlier, Dhoni and Jadeja’s 19th over onslaught helped CSK reach a competitive score of 167/8. Khaleel Ahmed gave away 21 runs in the 19th over, allowing the Super Kings to achieve a formidable total.

DC started off strongly, with Khaleel only allowing CSK to score four runs. However, Gaikwad and Conway bounced back in the second over, with the former smashing three fours in Ishant Sharma’s over. Axar provided DC with a crucial breakthrough in the fifth over by dismissing Conway for 10 runs. By the end of the powerplay, CSK were 49/1.

Axar picked up another wicket as Gaikwad’s shot landed in Khan’s hands. Moeen Ali and Rahane tried to build a partnership, before the former fell to Kuldeep Yadav in the 10th over. Rahane followed in the 12th over, offering a single-handed catch to Lalit Yadav. Rayudu and Dube tried to form a partnership, but Dube lost his wicket to Marsh. Rayudu attempted a maximum but was caught out by Patel. In the end, Dhoni and Jadeja’s resileient batting helped CSK reach 167/8.
