Shakib to miss remainder of ICC World Cup due to finger injury

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan will miss the remainder of the ICC World Cup 2023 due to an injury to his left index finger. The injury occurred while he was batting in Bangladesh’s controversial league stage match against Sri Lanka.

A post-match X-ray confirmed a fracture, leading to Shakib’s withdrawal from Bangladesh’s last match of the tournament against Australia in Pune.

The national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said that the all-rounder was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but still continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers.

He added that after an emergency X-ray in Delhi, a fracture on the left PIP joint was confirmed. Shakib’s Recovery is estimated to last at least three to four weeks.

Despite the injury, Shakib played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s recent ICC World Cup win over Sri Lanka. He delivered a match-winning performance, scoring 82 runs from 65 balls. The left arm spinner also contributed with the ball, taking 2/57. He was awarded the Player of the Match.
