Italy knock England out of Under-20 World Cup with 2-1 win

Italy emerged triumphant in the round of 16 of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, defeating England 2-1. Cesare Casadei, who plays for Chelsea in England, secured the decisive goal from a late penalty with only three minutes left on the clock. The penalty was given after video review confirmed a handball by England’s Jarell Quansah.

Italy took an early lead in the eighth minute thanks to Tommaso Baldanzi, assisted by Giuseppe Ambrosino. However, England equalised in the first half with a remarkable volley from Alfie Devine, set up by Dane Scarlett’s cross.

Despite their efforts, England, the 2017 champions and group leaders in Argentina, were eliminated. Italy progressed to the quarterfinals, where they will face Colombia.

Brazil, Nigeria register victories

On the same day, Brazil dominated Tunisia with a 4-1 win, despite playing with a reduced squad in the second half. Marcos Leonardo opened the scoring for Brazil from a penalty in the 11th minute. Meanwhile, Andrey Santos added a second goal in the 31st minute.

Tunisia’s hopes were briefly lifted when Brazil’s Robert Renan received a red card, but Brazil managed to score twice in injury time through Matheus Martins and Santos.

Meanwhile, Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory over Argentina. Nigeria capitalised on defensive errors and missed chances by Argentina. Ibrahim Muhammad took advantage of a goal kick mistake to score in the 61st minute.

Despite Argentina’s persistent pressure and hitting the woodwork twice, Nigeria sealed the win with a late counter-attack goal by Rilwanu Sarki just before the final whistle.
