Villarreal top group, Betis crash out of Europa League

Real Betis were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League after losing 3-2 to Rangers. Betis fought back twice after falling behind but lost to a late goal in the 78th minute. As Sparta Prague won in Limassol, Betis slipped from the top of their group to third place.

Abdallah Sima scored first for Rangers in the 10th minute. Betis’ Juan Miranda quickly leveled the score just four minutes later, but Cyriel Dessers put Rangers ahead again in the 20th minute.

Isco and Ayoze Perez combined for Betis to equalize again at 2-2 in the 37th minute with another fantastic goal. However, Kemar Roofe secured the win for Rangers with a close-range finish after a poorly defended corner by the Spanish team.

Villarreal claimed the top spot in their Europa League group after a thrilling 3-2 victory against Rennes. Gerard Moreno gave Villarreal the lead from a penalty in the 36th minute. However, Lorenz Assignon quickly equalized a minute later for Rennes.

In the second half, Ilias Akhomach’s shot deflected off a defender and put Villarreal back in front. Then, Ludovic Blas leveled the score for Rennes in the 79th minute. However, Dani Parejo scored the winning goal for Villarreal with a shot from outside the box a minute later.

Rennes had a goal disallowed during an intense injury time when Enzo Le Fee’s free kick hit the crossbar and he touched the ball again before anyone else, resulting in Assignon’s effort being ruled out.
