England defeat old rivals Scotland 3-1 in international friendly

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham played a pivotal role in England’s 3-1 win over old rivals Scotland at Hampden Park. He not only scored a goal but also provided an assist for Harry Kane, while Phil Foden opened the scoring for England. The match marked the 150-year anniversary of the Scottish Football Association, and the hosts saved face thanks to a Harry Maguire own goal.

Bellingham’s impressive form continued as he rejoins the national team after a sensational start to his career at Real Madrid. Since his move from Borussia Dortmund to Madrid in June (for a fee of up to $139 million), the youngster has scored five goals in four games.

From the outset, England asserted their dominance, securing a 2-0 lead by halftime. Bellingham and Foden displayed exceptional movement and passing, causing problems for Scotland.

Scotland struggled to create opportunieis before halftime and were unthreatening in the second half. However, they were gifted a goal. In the 67th minute, halftime substitute Maguire directed Robertson’s cross into his own net.

Later, substitute Eberechi Eze had a chance to score but was denied by Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn. In the 81st minute, Kane completed the scoring with his 59th goal for England, courtesy of a pass from Bellingham on the edge of the box. Scotland are two points away from qualifying for Euro 2024.
