The match saw Manchester United taking control for most of the time. In the early minutes, Wigan’s Thelo Aasgaard attempted a left-footed shot, but United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana made a crucial save to deny Wigan the lead. Later, Marcus Rashford’s attempt to score was stopped by Wigan’s goalkeeper, Sam Tickle.

However, United managed to break the deadlock when Diogo Dalot scored in the 22nd minute after receiving a pass from Rashford and guiding the ball into the net from outside the box.

United had several more chances to increase their lead. Rashford’s shot hit the post, Hojlund’s header hit the crossbar, and Alejandro Garnacho’s strong effort struck the bar from a distance of more than 20 yards. Despite these attempts, United only had a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, United continued to create opportunities. Kobbie Mainoo had a chance, but Tickle made another save. Eventually, United doubled their lead when Fernandes was fouled inside the box, resulting in a penalty. Fernandes confidently converted the penalty into the bottom-left corner of the goal.

Manchester United’s victory means they move forward to the fourth round, scheduled for the weekend of January 27. They will face either Newport County or Eastleigh in an away game.
