Mohamed Salah nets brace in Liverpool win over Newcastle

Mohamed Salah netted two goals as Liverpool secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Newcastle United. The result pushed them three points ahead at the top of the Premier League. Salah, along with Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo’s goals, led Liverpool to a historic win at Anfield.

Salah’s penalty was saved in the first half by Newcastle’s goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. Newcastle managed to stay in the game with goals from Alexander Isak and Sven Botman in the second half.

However, Mohamed Salah redeemed himself after his penalty miss by netting his 150th Premier League goal for Liverpool, tapping in an empty net in the 49th minute.

Newcastle’s Isak equalised within six minutes of Liverpool’s second goal. However, the Reds regained the lead with Jones’ 74th minute goal. Gakpo then extended their lead four minutes later.

Newcastle didn’t give up, and Botman’s header from Sean Longstaff’s corner got them another goal. Liverpool were later awarded another penalty. This time, Salah converted, marking his 14th Premier League goal of the season.

With this win, Liverpool sit at the top with 45 points from 20 games, three points ahead of second-placed Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Newcastle, experiencing a rough patch with five losses in their last six matches, are ninth in the league, trailing Arsenal in fourth by 11 points.
