Boca Juniors advance to quarterfinals of Copa Libertadores

One of Argentina’s most prominent clubs, Boca Juniors, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores after defeating Uruguay’s Nacional in a penalty shootout. The match had earlier ended 0-0 after regulation time.

In the second leg, Boca got off to a great start with Miguel Merentiel scoring in the 12th minute. Alfonso Trezza equalised shortly after, but Luis Advincula regained the lead for Boca just after halftime. Ignacio Ramirez levelled the score again with a 75th-minute goal, leading to a penalty shootout.

During the shootout, Ramirez and Daniel Bocanegra missed their penalties for Nacional, while Guillermo Fernandez missed for Boca. Young defender Valentin Barco then calmly scored the winning penalty, securing Boca Juniors’ spot in the quarterfinals.

In other Copa Libertadores matches, Palmeiras advanced by defeating Brazilian rivals Athletico Paranaense, and Deportivo Pereira progressed by narrowly defeating Independiente del Valle.
