Champions League: Man United, Sevilla out of 2024 European competitions

Manchester United and Sevilla were knocked out of the Champions League, failing to secure a place in the Europa League. Both teams were eliminated from European competition and ended up at the bottom of their groups. Three-time Champions League winners Manchester United needed to win against Bayern Munich and rely on another team’s result in their group. However, they lost 1-0 to the German side.

Danish team, Copenhagen, secured the second spot in the group by winning against Galatasaray 1-0. Galatasaray managed to finish third, securing a spot in the Europa League playoff, leaving Manchester United at the bottom of the group. This marks only the fourth time a Premier League team has finished last in their Champions League group.

Meanwhile, the defending Europa League champions, Sevilla, who have won the Europa League seven times, lost 2-1 against Lens and ended up at the bottom of their group, with Lens finishing third.

During the matches, fans began leaving the stadium 10 minutes before the end. Some even booed Manchester United’s players at the final whistle, putting more pressure on their manager, Erik Ten Hag.

In another game, Napoli secured a spot in the last 16 by defeating Braga 2-0, securing the second position in their group, already won by Real Madrid.

African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli. Veteran Croatia midfielder Luka Modric missed a penalty for Real Madrid. However, the Spanish club they managed to win 3-2 against Union Berlin.

In the early matches, Inter Milan and Real Sociedad, who had already qualified from Group D, drew 0-0 in Italy. Real Sociedad secured the top position in the group based on goal difference.

Benfica secured a spot in the Europa League playoffs, beating Salzburg 3-1. Arthur Cabral scored a backheel goal in stoppage time.

Arsenal, who had already secured the top position in their group, drew 1-1 against PSV Eindhoven. Both teams have  qualified. Striker Eddie Nketiah scored his first Champions League goal.
