Aston Villa secured a surprise 1-0 win over an out-of-form Manchester City to move third in the English Premier League. Leon Bailey scored the lone goal after making a run from the halfway line and firing a shot past the City defense into the net. Villa could have scored more against a struggling Manchester City defence.
In another game, Manchester United claimed a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, with Scott McTominay scoring twice. McTominay’s first goal came from a blocked shot by Harry Maguire, and although Cole Palmer equalized for Chelsea, McTominay netted the winner from a corner.
Sheffield United, despite an improved performance under new coach Chris Wilder, couldn’t secure points against Liverpool. Virgil Van Dijk’s goal from a corner kept Liverpool in second place, sealing their win with Dominik Szoboszlai’s late goal.
Brighton recovered quickly after conceding a penalty to Bryan Mbeumo, eventually winning 2-1. Pascal Gross and Jack Hinshelwood scored to overturn the scoreline in their favor.
Bournemouth continued their resurgence, clinching a 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace with goals from Marcos Senesi and Kieffer Moore.
In another English Premier League game, Fulham hammered Nottingham Forest 5-0. Nottingham’s coach Steve Cooper’s job now appears to be in jeopardy. Alex Iwobi and Raul Jimenez scored twice, with Tom Cairney adding the final goal.
